For just over a year, two of Cycle-R’s Trustees, Richard Lawrence and Russ Taylor have co-chaired the Bicycle Mechanic Trailblazer Group (BMTG) that has been creating the new Apprenticeship standard for cycle mechanics in the UK. The new Level 2 Occupational Standard and Bicycle Mechanic Assessment Plan were approved earlier this year by the Institute for Apprenticeships. You can find details of these on the Institute for Apprenticeships web site here.

Since the publication of the new Occupational Standard, Richard & Russ have received a number of enquiries about what happens next. We have received enquiries from potential candidates asking “Where can I get a Bicycle Mechanic Apprenticeship” and employers wishing to offer the new Apprenticeship. We have also had enquiries from training delivery organisations and assessors wishing to deliver the new Apprenticeship training or provide end point assessment services.

As of September 2018, members of the BMTG are still working on key elements of the new standard such as the Delivery Plan, final End Point Assessment and other documentation required to provide the full deliverable Apprenticeship. Due to the volume of work still to be done and constraints on resources, it is anticipated that this work will not be completed before the end of 2018.

If you are a potential candidate, employer, training organisation or assessor and would like to receive detailed information as soon as all the Apprenticeship documentation is complete and ready for release, please would you register your interest using this link.
